Our history

A small start in Montague Gardens

WallArtDesign in Montague Gardens, Cape Town, serves homeowners and trade clients looking for feature walls that offer more than paint or a standard finish. Our work includes site visits, measuring, sample boards and checking wall condition before cladding or panels are installed.

From the start, the team understood that a good wall system has to work in real homes and busy business spaces. Coastal humidity, changing temperatures, load-shedding and uneven substrates all affect the end result. That early experience shaped the company’s way of working and set the tone for the years that followed.

  • First projects focused on residential feature walls and small commercial fit-outs in Cape Town.
  • Sample matching and design guidance became part of the process early on.
  • Attention to wall prep was built into every job from day one.

Building trust project by project

During the next few years, the business grew through referrals from architects, designers, contractors and homeowners who needed a supplier that would turn up, measure properly and finish neatly. Work expanded into the Atlantic Seaboard, Southern Suburbs and Northern Suburbs, with more enquiries coming from Stellenbosch, Paarl and Somerset West as more people looked for feature walls that suited both modern and classic interiors.

These years were important because they proved that the service had to be as dependable as the product. Jobs ranged from compact apartment walls to larger reception areas and retail spaces. Each one had different needs, from acoustic improvement to making a plain wall feel more considered. Over time, WallArtDesign had established a clear reputation for practical advice and consistent finishes, with very few call-backs, which matters when clients are working to deadlines and budgets.

  • Expanded service coverage across key Cape Town suburbs and nearby Winelands towns.
  • Introduced more structured site measure-ups and layout planning.
  • Gained repeat work from trade clients who needed reliable turnaround times.

More materials, more use cases

As the range of projects grew, so did the need for a wider selection of materials, profiles and styles. WallArtDesign broadened its offering to suit different room types, from quiet bedrooms and lounges to high traffic commercial interiors that needed easy maintenance. Some clients wanted a bold sculpted wall, while others needed something softer, lighter and more suitable for acoustic control. The business responded by matching the right product to the right setting, rather than pushing a one size fits all solution.

This period also saw more collaboration with designers and project teams who needed dependable support from early concept to final installation. Layout discussions, sample approvals and preparation guidance became part of the day to day rhythm. For many clients, the difference was not only in how the panel looked, but how it performed once installed. Better wall finish, better sound control and a neater room overall, that was the point.

  • Wider choice of panels for residential and commercial interiors.
  • Stronger focus on acoustic panel fitting and functional wall finishes.
  • Greater support for design-led projects with sample matching and layout planning.

Installation work and commercial rollouts

Over time, the installation side of the business had become a key part of what WallArtDesign offered. Projects were no longer limited to supplying panels. Clients wanted a team that could handle wall preparation, fitting, repairs and aftercare as one clear process. That mattered especially in commercial settings where tenants, property managers and fit-out teams need clean work, predictable timing and minimal disruption to trading.

Commercial rollouts became more common during this stage, alongside restaurant walls, offices, retail spaces and reception areas. The team had to work around building access rules, scheduled handovers and limited install windows. In Cape Town and surrounding areas, that often means tight parking, body corporate procedures and work hours that need proper coordination. Johan Smit led installation management, while the workshop and coordination side helped keep jobs moving without fuss, or delays that could cost clients time and money.

  • Installation services expanded to include full wall preparation and fitting.
  • Commercial rollout work increased across Cape Town and the Western Cape.
  • Aftercare support and panel maintenance became part of the standard service.

A stronger team and better coordination

As demand continued, the company grew into a more specialised team with clear roles across sales, design, coordination, workshop production and client care. Morne van Rensburg led the business with a focus on reliable service and sensible growth, while the team around him brought structure to day to day work. Anele Mbeki handled sales enquiries, Bianca Naidoo supported design choices, Tshegofatso Mabunda kept projects organised, Gerhard Steyn supervised workshop output, and Zanele Dlamini looked after client communication and follow-up.

This was also the period when more clients asked for panel repairs and maintenance rather than full replacement, especially in high use spaces where walls take a bit of wear over time. The practical value of that became clear in apartments, offices and hospitality venues where a damaged section can be repaired more efficiently than starting over. It also helped clients protect their budget while keeping interiors looking smart. A small repair done well can save a lot more than it costs.

  • Team roles became more specialised for faster turnaround and better project control.
  • Repairs and maintenance were added to support existing installations.
  • More projects came through architects, designers and repeat commercial clients.

Western Cape installs and nationwide dispatch

Today WallArtDesign operates from Montague Gardens in Cape Town and works across the Western Cape, with panels couriered nationwide for clients who want the right product even when they are outside the metro. The company continues to serve residential and commercial clients in Montague Gardens, the Atlantic Seaboard, Southern Suburbs, Northern Suburbs, Stellenbosch, Paarl and Somerset West, while also supporting projects in other parts of South Africa through careful packaging and dispatch planning.

Our work centres on suitable wall products, clear guidance and careful fitting across homes and commercial interiors in Cape Town and beyond. What has changed is the scale. The business now supports more complex feature wall layouts, acoustic panel fitting, commercial rollouts and coordinated aftercare, all while keeping the process straightforward for the client. Whether the job is a single accent wall or a larger interior upgrade, the aim is still to make the finished space feel more considered and more complete, without making the process difficult.

  • Nationwide panel dispatch added for clients beyond the Western Cape.
  • Continued service for architects, designers, contractors and homeowners.
  • Same practical approach: measure carefully, prepare properly, install neatly.
